Staff and administrators gathered at around 9 a.m. to gather lawn signs saying "Proud of Our Senior" that they would deliver to the homes of the members of the SV High School Class of 2020. While those SV staff members were making their rounds, our food distribution team was getting ready for the Thursday edition of Grab and Go, the twice-weekly distribution of breakfast and lunch packages to family/children in our community. Banners featuring the seniors' images and names now are proudly on display on the fence outside the high school on Conklin Road. District administrators and staff spent the morning May 1 hanging the banners, to pay tribute to our seniors in a tangible way. You can see the pictures HERE . Brookside Virtual Poetry Recitation School closure didn't stop Brookside Elementary School from hosting its annual Poetry Recitation. This year students and teachers took advantage of remote learning technology and submitted video clips reciting their favorite poems. Thank you Mrs. Coe , our Show Host and Ms. Ciz , our Video Producer, for putting this together! Most of all, thank you students for sharing your poetry! To honor the Class of 2020, we will be turning on our stadium lights at 8:20 p.m. (20:20 military time) for 20 minutes every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Together we remain Saber Strong! A Message from Superintendent Roland Doig During our school closure, there is a continuation of education. Families and students continue to receive communication and educational materials from their teachers as they have been. It is important that students engage with this work that is being provided, and maintain communication with their teachers. Please let teachers know that you are working on these at home materials. Please note our updated parameters for grading periods. The 3rd marking period will officially close on April 24 at 3:00 pm. Students will receive their grade as of March 11 (unless additional back work was submitted). GERTRUDE HAWK UPDATE For Class of 2021 For students that sold candy this past Spring, the order will arrive on MAY 7 (this is the correct date!) and will be available for pickup between the hours of 4-6PM in front of the high school entrance. If you cannot make that time, Tuesday, MAY 12th will be the secondary option to pick up your order during regular food pickup times. Once you pick up your order, you can easily be distributed to doorsteps for those that you sold to. As you know, the Board of Regents has canceled all Regents exams, thereby allowing us to move forward with more concrete plans for our next phase of learning, which at this point will extend through May 15 at the earliest. For students at Brookside and Donnelly : Families can continue to expect regular contact from classroom teachers and sustained learning materials and activities for art, music, physical education and AIS. As we move into the final quarter of the school year, however, the work that is assigned by classroom teachers is no longer simply suggested. The assignments and activities will incorporate skills and concepts not previously taught that will ready students for a transition into the next grade level. We encourage parents and caregivers to create a routine at home that allows for students to engage with their classroom work without feeling overwhelmed. Please reach out to your child's teacher(s) with any questions or concerns. We have additional workbook resources available to students in Kindergarten through grade 2 ....
